SUBJECT: CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT 2017-07: STATUS UPDATE FOR THE
KARAOKE MUSIC STUDIO AT 14561 & 14571 RED HILL AVENUE
BACKGROUND
On September 13, 2016, the Planning Commission held a public hearing, received
public comment, and adopted Resolution No. 4319 approving CUP 2016-08 for a
karaoke music studio at 14561 and 14571 Red Hill Avenue. Condition No. 2.4 limited
the hours of operation to 2:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight, and authorized the Community
Development Department to modify the hours if no adverse impacts were anticipated.
The karaoke music studio received its Certificate of Occupancy on March 3, 2017 and
opened for business the same day.
On April 26, 2017, the Community Development Department received an application to
extend the karaoke music studio's hours of operation to 2:00 a.m., stating that the
business was unable to attract customers due to its inability to stay open until 2:00 a.m.,
similar to other karaoke businesses. Due to public concern about the proposed
business at the September 13, 2016, hearing and the lack of establishment of business
operations over a period of time, the application was referred back to the Planning
Commission,
At the public hearing on June 13, 2017, the Planning Commission received no public
comments and unanimously approved an extension of operating hours for a karaoke
music studio located at 14561 & 14571 Red Hill Avenue. The Planning Commission
requested that staff report back to the Commission in three (3) months to provide a
status report on the business operation.
CURRENT STATUS
As of August 15, 2017, the karaoke music studio was a victim of vandalism; otherwise,
there have been no other calls to the police department or any code enforcement efforts
related to this business.
RECOMMENDATION
That the Planning Commission receive and file this item.
