SUBJECT:
AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY RELAY FOR LIFE PARK FEE WAIVER
SUMMARY:
The American Cancer Society has requested a waiver of fees for park rental, lights and
staff costs associated with implementing their Relay for Life program scheduled for
August 7 and 8 at the Tustin Sports Park.
RECOMMENDATION:
Grant a fee waiver of park rental fees and light fees associated with the Relay for Life
program.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Parks and Recreation Department park rental fees, light fees and use of the picnic
shelter for this event are $602. Staff costs to illuminate and extinguish the sports field
lights are $65. A refundable deposit of $200 is required for the park reservation and the
staff costs of $65 should be borne by the American Cancer Society.
DISCUSSION:
The American Cancer Society host the Relay for Life as a major fund raiser for cancer
research and education. The American Cancer Society has formed a committee of
community volunteers to assist with coordinating and presenting the event. The event
will be attended by 700 participants and family members. This program is a 24 hour
event and will require some sports field lighting on diamond #3 near the picnic shelter
after our 10:00 p.m. sports field lighting curfew. City staff has met with Ms. Trina Jonas
of the American Cancer Society to review their permit details. The American Cancer
Society will be required to notify the surrounding neighbors of the after hours lighted
event.
The American Cancer Society is requesting all fees be waived and park permits be
granted. A member of the American Cancer Society will be in attendance at the July 6
Council meeting to answer questions.
Respectfully,
¿? ~t:/c.
