In accordance with Ordinance No. 1001, which was adopted June 20,
1988, by the Tustin City Council, the Community Development
Director has the authority to approve, approve with conditions, or
deny a Certificate of Appropriateness for improvements requiring a
City building permit for property located within a Cultural
Resource District. The following findings are required before a
Certificate of Appropriateness is issued:
1. The proposed work conforms to the Municipal Code and design
standards which may be established from time to time by the
Cultural Resources Committee;
2. The proposed work does not adversely affect the character of
the District or Designated Cultural Resources within the
District; and
3. The proposed work is harmonious with existing surroundings.
The extent of harmony shall be evaluated in terms of
appropriateness of materials, scale, size, height, placement
and use of a new building or structure in relationship to
existing buildings and structures an the surrounding setting.
The proposed project consists of a new trellis attached to the
south side of the existing garage at 435 Second Street, a 'C'
rating Craftsman house built in 1910. The trellis will be 24x10
feet between the garage and the residence, painted light gray to
match the existing house, and will complement the existing
residence. As such, it has been determined that the project is in
conformance with the above requirements. The Community Development
Director has considered the proposed project and approves a
Certificate of Appropriateness for the trellis structure at 435
Second Street.
