BUILDING OUR FUTURE
HONORING OUR PAST
The property is improved with a detached single family residential, "B" rated
structure in the California Bungalow style. The proposed work involves foundation
repair and structural reinforcement. A building permit (1308-0054) and Certificate of
Appropriateness stamp were issued for the project on April 3, 2008. Upon
implementing the construction, additional structural deficiencies became apparent
necessitating a revision to the plans which involve removing the existing chimney
and fireplace as it is beyond structural repair. The fireplace and chimney will be
replaced to match the existing one as closely as possible.
i
In accordance with Ordinance No. 1001 Which was adopted June 20, 1988, by the

approve, approve with conditions, or deny Certificates of Appropriateness for
improvements requiring a City building permit for property located within a Cultural
Resource District. The structure is "non -rated" per the Tustin Historical Resources
Survey.
The Community Development Department finds and determines as follows:
A. The proposed work conforms to the Municipal Code and any applicable
design standards in that the proposed project meets zoning code
requirements and the proposed exterior improvements reflect the original
design and character of the building.
B. The proposed work does not adversely affect the character of the District or
Designated Cultural Resources within the District in that: the proposed
project will not change the square footage or footprint of the home and the
appearance of the home will not be altered. Exterior improvements are as a
result of structural deficiencies and will match the existing structure.
C. The proposed work is harmonious with existing surroundings in that the
proposed project is a replacement of an existing chimney and fireplace that
match the existing structure in terms of materials and finishes, and will not
conflict with the architectural style of other surrounding structures. Other
residences in the immediate vicinity share the same original architectural
feature (red brick chimney) as the one being replaced.
