HUSTON, CITY MANAGER PARKS AND RECREATION SERVICES AWARD OF BID FOR TUSTIN SPORTS PARK BALLFIELD RENOVATION No. 11 04-02-01 SUMMARY: The bid opening for the Tustin Sports Park Ballfield Renovation project was held on March 22, 2001. City Council is requested to award the bid to Premier Contractors of Orange in the amount of $32,000. RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council: 1. Award the contract for the Tustin Sports Park Ballfield Renovation to Premier Contractors of Orange in the amount of $32,000 subject to approval of contract requirements by the City Attorney and execution by the City Manager. 2. Authorize the transfer of $32,000 from the Restricted Capital Maintenance Fund (50-000- 2604/9115) to the Park Development Fund. FISCAL IMPACT: Funding for the renovation is being provided through the Restricted Capital Maintenance Fund (50-000-2604/9115) that was collected from the Cell Site Lease. The contract amount is within the estimated project budget. BACKGROUND: The project includes renovation and grading of three baseball fields, with the addition of soil amendments, removal of turf and replacement with sod at the skinned area line. The ballfields have not been renovated since the park was completed in 1995. At the City Council Meeting on February 20, 2001 Revised Plans & Specifications and Authorization to Re-Advertise for Bid for the Tustin Sports Ballfield Renovation were approved. The original Authorization to Bid was approved at the December 18, 2000 City Council meeting. Due to the fact that the lowest responsible bidder significantly exceeded the project budget, the Parks & Recreation Department requested that the City Council reject all bids and re-advertise the project with a reduced scope of work. SUMMARY: Sealed bids for the revised scope of work were opened on March 22, 2001. Three bids were received. The bids were as follows: Contractor Premier Contractors Trugreen Landcare Mariposa Horticultural Amount $32.000 $32,785 $39,813 A reference check of the contractor, a review of the bid documents and a determination that the contractor possesses a valid contractor's license have been completed. The Risk Manager will complete a review of the required bonds and insurance certificates. Renovation will begin pending coordination with sports teams schedules. ./~'~',:~.~.
