MEETING DATE:

TO:
FROM:
WILLIAM A. HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
SUBJECT:
POTENTIAL ANNEXATION OF A 24-ACRE UNINCORPORATED ISLAND
GENERALLY LOCATED AT THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF SEVENTEENTH
STREET AND TUSTIN AVENUE
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council continue this item to the second meeting in November.
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
At the October 4, 2004, City Council meeting, Dr. Paul Lewanski, requested the City of
Tustin consider annexing a 24-acre unincorporated island generally located at the
northeast corner of Seventeenth Street and Tustin Avenue. The area is currently within
the City of Santa Ana's sphere of influence. Dr. Lewanski noted that he represented the
residents of that area, and they are opposed to annexation by the City of Santa Ana. The
City Council requested that staff agendize this matter for further discussion. Staff has
scheduled a meeting with LAFCO's staff members to discuss this and any broader
associated issues; however, that meeting could not be scheduled until after the October
18, 2004, Council meeting. Therefore, staff does not have any new information to report at
this time.
