HUSTON, CITY MANAGER FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS AND AUTHORIZATION TO FILE THE NOTICE OF COMPLETION FOR THE CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS RENOVATION (CIP NO. 1039) SUMMARY Construction of the City Council Chambers Renovation Project (CIP No. 1039) has been completed to the satisfaction of the City Engineer and is now ready for City Council acceptance. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council adopt Resolution No. 05-20 accepting the City Council Chambers Renovation Project (CIP No.1 039), and authorizing the recordation of the Notice of Completion, and direct the City Clerk to: 1. Release the Labor and Materials Bond not sooner than thirty-five (35) days after the date of recordation of the Notice of Completion; and 2. Release the Faithful Performance Bond not sooner than one year after the date of recordation of the Notice of Completion; and Assuming no claims or stop payment notices are filed, it is further recommended that thirty- five (35) days after the date of recordation of the Notice of Completion, the City Council authorize payment of the final 10% retention in the amount of $44,172.75 to Big West Construction Inc. FISCAL IMPACT The final construction contract cost for the City Council Chambers Renovation Project (CIP No. 1039) is $441,727.56. The project was funded by the City's Capital Improvement Program and cable television capital grants from Cox Communications and Comcast. Acceptance of Public Improvements and Authorization to File the Notice of Completion for the City Council Chambers Renovation Project - Phase I (CIP No. 1039) January 17, 2005 Page 2 BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION The construction of the City Council Chambers Renovation Project (CIP No. 1039) was completed on January 8, 2005. The project involved the construction of desks for staff and the City Council, electrical work and installation of carpeting and audio/visual equipment. All of the work for this project has been completed to the satisfaction of the City Engineer, and is now ready for City Council acceptance. Tim D. Said public works and improvement is more particularly described as follows: City Council Chambers Renovation Project (CIP No. 1039) BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Engineer of the City of Tustin is hereby authorized to execute and file a Notice of Completion for the acceptance of said public works and improvement described herein as required by law.
