HUSTON, CITY MANAGER PARKS AND RECREATION SERVICES SUBJECT' AWARD OF BID FOR FRONTIER PARK BRIDGE REPAIR RENOVATION SUMMARY: The bid opening for replacement of Frontier Park Bridge Repair Renovation was held on June 6, 2001. City Council is requested to award the bid to Custom Landscape and Design in the amount of $22,853. RECOMMENDATION: Award the contract for Frontier Park Bridge Repair Renovation to Custom Landscape and Design in the amount of $22,853 subject to approval of contract requirements by the City Attorney and final execution. FISCAL IMPACT' Replacement of Frontier Park Bridge Repair Renovation is being provided through an allocation of $71,542 from the 2000/2001 Community Development Block Grant program (21-999-9530-2047) for Frontier Park Phase II. Due to the cost of the playground apparatus, which is included in the Phase II. project, the overall cost of the improvements exceeds the original appropriation. The cost of the playground apparatus is $58,000. This playground equipment and the Frontier Park bridge improvements exceed the estimated total project budget by $12,500. Due to current delays in the MCAS Tustin Legacy Project, a transfer of $12,500 from the Legacy Park CDBG allocation is recommended. BACKGROUND' The scope of work includes the removal, demolition and replacement of five footbridges at Frontier Park. The bridges are constructed of wood members that require regular maintenance; the new bridges will be constructed with concrete. At the City Council Meeting on April 16, 2001 Plans & Specifications and Authorization to Advertise for Bids for Frontier Park Bridge Repair and Renovation were approved. SUMMARY: Sealed bids were opened on June 6, 2001; nine bids were received. bids were as follows: The six lowest Contractor Custom Landscape Greenfield Construction Punchlist Construction T.W. Contracting Southland Construction Premier. Contractors Amount $22,853 $24,600 $26,800 $29,007 $38,800 $39,995 A reference check of the contractor, a review of the bid documents and a determination that the contractor possesses a valid contractor's license have been completed. The Risk Manager will complete a. review of the required bonds and insurance certificates. Construction should be completed by August.
