Staff is pleased to present to the City Council and the public its first "EMPLOYEE SHOWCASE".
The first City employee selected to be "Showcased" is Diane Willumson from our Parks and
Recreation Department.
BACKGROUND:
At the request of Council members Lou Bone and Tony Kawashima, staff researched and
developed a program entitled "EMPLOYEE SHOWCASE".
The program described below has been established as a pilot program under the direction of
the City Manager.
DESCRIPTION: A program that provides all City employees an equal opportunity to be
recognized by the City Council and the public for outstanding accomplishments, service, and/or
conduct that is above and beyond the duties and/or requirements of his/her employment.
FREQUENCY: Quarterly- provided there is an individual who meets the established criteria.
Every attempt should be made to equitably "showcase" employees from various departments.
CRITERIA FOR CONSIDERATION
CATEGORY I: The individual selected is recognized as a model to other City employees and
has performed in an exceptional manner; he/she has performed work that is outstanding in
comparison to the standard. Achievements may reflect dollar savings, system benefits,
increased productivity or streamlining of procedures or techniques. Once per year the individual
recognized would be that individual selected by his/her peers as the "Employee of the Year".
Examples of exceptional performance/service include (but are not limited to):
Superior contribution on a short-term project
· An act of heroism
· A scientific achievement or major' discovery
· A program, procedure or process that results in significant cost savings'
· Outstanding customer service
Outstanding service to the community
· Fostering cooperation and/or exceptional team efforts
· Valuing diversity
Demonstration of creativity and innovation offering continuous improvement
· Exemplary acts of service

· Promoting the City
· Dedication and hard work that enables or assists the work of their fellow employees.
CATEGORY I1: Meritorious Service Awards- designed to recognize the outstanding service of
long-time employees who are retiring from the City. To be eligible, employees must have at
least 20 years of service and be nominated via a letter from his/her Supervisor or Department
Head.
METHODOLOGY: Department Heads nominate staff members they believe have performed in
an exceptional manner. The decision on the quarterly employee to "showcase" shall be
reached by a consensus of the Executive Management group. Employees who, within a 12-
month period, have had a less than satisfactory evaluation and/or been subject to disciplinary
action are not eligible for consideration. Each spring the individual "showcased" shall be the
individual who has been selected by his/her peers as the Employee of the Year.
RECOGNITION: The Department Head of the employee selected describes the employee's
contribution as a part of the regular agenda at a regularly scheduled City Council meeting. The
Employee of the Year and Category II selections are also recognized by a proclamation from
..
City Council.
