HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 89-10810 ]4 RESOLUTION NO. 89-108 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN EXPRESSING ITS SUPPORT OF THE IMPORTANCE OF THE AMERICAN FLAG AS THE SYMBOL OF OUR NATION, OUR PEOPLE, OUR FREEDOM WHEREAS, the flag of the United States occupies a unique position as the symbol of our nation; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Tustin does hereby express affirmation of its respect for the flag of the United States of America; and WHEREAS, the uniqueness of the flag has been created by history as the symbol of universal honor and respect of our nation in peace and at war; and WHEREAS, the flag is prominently displayed in public buildings from the United States Capitol to the thousands of city halls and county courthouses throughout the country; and WHEREAS, the traditional placing of the flag on the caskets of deceased men and women of the armed forces from the Revolutionary War to the Persian Gulf is a mark of respect to the memory of those who gave their lives in defense of their country; and WHEREAS, both the Congress and the states have enacted laws prohibiting the public mutilation, defiling, defacing or burning of the flag. ]7 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Tustin wishes to enlist the participation of its citizens in renewing their ]8 commitment to honor and respect the American flag as a symbol of our great nation and our nation's commitment to the personal ~[) freedoms and responsibilities granted to its citizens by its Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
