HUSTON, CITY MANAGER FROM:HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT SUBJECT: EMPLOYEE SHOWCASE - 2004 EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR SUMMARY: This is a presentation "Showcasing" the City's Employee of the Year as related to the City's Employee Showcase Program, RECOMMENDATION: Receive a presentation from the Chief of Police "showcasing" David Kanoti, the City's Employee of the Year and present a proclamation, FISCAL IMPACT: NONE BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION: Several years ago the City implemented a program entitled "Employee Showcase", The purpose of the program is to allow the City Council and the public to recognize City employees for outstanding accomplishments, service, and/or conduct that is above and beyond the duties and/or requirements of their job, Once each year the employee "showcased" is the employee that has been selected by his/her peers as the Employee of the Year. The individual selected as "Employee of the Year" is recognized as a model to other City employees and has performed in an exceptional manner; he/she has performed work that is outstanding in comparison to the standard, Achievements may reflect dollar savings, system benefits, increased productivity or streamlining of procedures or techniques, S:\City Council Agenda Items\2005\Employee Showcase EE of Year 04.doc Examples of exceptional performance/service include (but are not limited to): . Superior contribution on a short-term project . An act of heroism . A scientific achievement or major discovery . A program, procedure or process that results in significant cost savings . Outstanding customer service/outstanding service to the community . Fostering cooperation and/or exceptional team efforts . Valuing diversity . Demonstration of creativity and innovation offering continuous improvement . Exemplary acts of service . Promoting the City . Dedication and hard work that enables or assists the work of their fellow employees For calendar year 2004 David Kanoti was name the City of Tustin's Employee of the Year. He was honored for his exceptional performance at our annual Employee Service Award luncheon, Arlene Marks Gibbs, SPHR Director of Human Resources S:\City Council Agenda Items\2005\Empioyee Showcase EE of Year 04.doc ÐAVEKANOTI 2004 EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR WHEREAS, Dave Kanoti joined the Tustin Police Deparhnent in March of 1989 as a Police Dispatcher and quickly became known for his smooth, patient and professional tone in the communications center; and WHEREAS, Dave has an innate ability to remain calm during emergencies - saving countless lives over the past 15 years; thus, being awarded the 'Life Saving' award; and WHEREAS, By performing with uhnost professionalism and dedication, Dave has distinguished himself among fellow employees, and community residents, Most notably, Dave, has been named the TPOA Civilian Employee of the Year on six (6) separate occasions and despite his accomplishments has remained humble and loyal to his profession and co-workers; and Now, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Tustin hereby recognize and congratulate EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR, DAVE KANOTI, for enhancing the quality of life in Tustin through his competent and committed contributions and extend our appreciation; we hereby affix our signatures this 22nd day of February, 2005.
