TO:
FROM:
WilLIAM A. HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
SCOTT M. JORDAN, CHIEF OF POLICE
SUBJECT:
GEM ELECTRIC VEHICLE DONATION
SUMMARY:
The Tustin Police Officers' Association, through the Tustin Police Memorial Fund, is
asking the City Council to accept the donation of a GEM electric vehicle for use within
the city.
RECOMMENDATION:
Accept the donation of the GEM vehicle and add to the Police Department's fleet.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The only fiscal impact would be the cost of regular maintenance, which would be
minimal.
BACKGROUND:
Many generous donations have been made by various businesses, citizens and service
organizations throughout the city. Sizable donations were also made by the owners of
Park Place Apartments and Tustin Kiwanis. The Tustin Police Officers' Association,
through the Tustin Police Memorial Fund, recently used these donations to purchase a
GEM electric vehicle which will be added to the Police Department's fleet. The vehicle
will be used by the department's Bicycle Team, School Resource Officers, and for a
variety of Community Outreach programs. The vehicle has a custom paint job courtesy
of Sterling Collision Center, who also donated a large sum of money for the project. To
allow the city to insure and book the vehicle as a fixed asset, the Tustin Police Officers'
Association is seeking to donate the vehicle to the city.
