HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 89-21RESOLUTION NO. 89-21 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING THE ORANGE COUNTY TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION'S ANTI-GRIDLOCK PROGRAM AND REQUESTING "DO NOT BLOCK. INTERSECTION, FINE UP TO $500" SIGNS FOR POSTING AT CONGESTED INTERSECTIONS IN THE CITY WHEREAS, the State Legislature enacted the Anti-Gridlock Act of 1987 making it illegal for motorists to enter an intersection when no space is available to clear the intersection prior to signal change; WHEREAS, the Anti-Gridlock Act of 1987 further authorizes local authorities to post signs warning against blocking the intersection; WHEREAS, the Orange County Transportation Commission desires to encourage local agencies to install anti-gridlock signs at congested intersections throughout Orange County; and WHEREAS, the Orange County Transportation Commission has allocated $25,000 for the purpose of purchasing anti-gridlock signs to be posted by local agencies at severely congested intersections throughout the county in an effort to improve traffic flow; WHEREAS, to maximize effectiveness of anti-gridlock signs, some level of enforcement activity is necessary. NOW, THEREFORE~ BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Tustin hereby requests the Orange County Transportation Commission include the City of Tustin in this program. This request is in conformance with the guidelines and criteria set forth for the OCUTT Anti-Gridlock Act Program° BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Tustin agrees to install and maintain all devices allocated to the City by the Orange County Transportation Commission through the Anti-Gridlock Program. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Tustin agrees to absorb the costs for activities related to posting and enforcing the. anti-gridlock signs obtained from the Orange County Transportation Commission. l? 27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Tustin acknowledges the need to enforce the anti-gridlock law ~to relieve traffic congestion and increase traffic safety.
