HUSTON, CITY MANAGER PATRICK SANCHEZ, DIRECTOR, PARKS AND RECREATION SERVICES TO: SUBJECT: TUSTIN SPORTS PARK- PLAY EQUIPMENT RENOVATION SUMMARY: The Parks & Recreation Department is requesting an amendment to the 05-06 Capital Improvement Program to renovate play equipment at the Tustin Sports Park. The scope of work includes the purchase of play equipment and shade structure for Tustin Sports Park. The estimated cost of the entire project including demolition, equipment, and installation is $110,000. To take advantage of a matching grant in the amount of $22,682 the city must order the equipment by November 19, 2005. RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council: 1. Amend the 05-06 CIP to include the Tustin Sports Park Playground renovation 2. Reappropriate $75,000 from the 06-07 CIP budget to the 05-06 budget FISCAL IMPACT: The project will be financed through a combination of funds; $35,000 from the 05/06 CIP Budget Park Development Fund for Tot lot Renovations (Project No. 2059) and $75,000 allocated from the Reserve Sports Park Deferred Maintenance Account. The estimated cost of the entire project including demolition, equipment, and installation is $110,000. BACKGROUND: The playground equipment at the Tustin Sports Park is worn and in need of replacement. The 05-06 CIP includes an allocation of $35,000 from the Park development Fund; the remaining funding is scheduled for FY 06-07. Staff is requesting that the City Council amend the 05-06 CIP to accelerate the replacement of play equipment to the current fiscal year. The reason to accelerate the project is to take advantage of a matching grant available through "Keep Kids Fit" program offered by the GameTime Company. In order to take advantage of the grant the city must order product by November 19, 2005. Staff will purchase the equipment through the informal bid process under California Uniform Public Construction Cost Accounting Commission procedures. The estimated cost of the play equipment and shade structure is $65,000; the matching grant is $22,682.
