HUIZAR, CHIEF DEPUTY CITY CLERK APPOINTMENT ON THE HISTORIC RESOURCES COMMITTEE SUMMARY: One position on the Historic Resources Committee is vacant due to the resignation of Carol Tink Fox; the term expiration for position is July 21, 2008. The City advertised the vacancy in the City's website and in the Tustin News. Linda E. Smith submitted an application for consideration for the position. RECOMMENDATION: Pleasure of the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact. BACKGROUND: The Historic Resources Committee meets on an as-needed basis or at least once per calendar quarter as requested. The Committee acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council on matters affecting the Cultural Resources District (Old Town Tustin), provides recommendations on building and other activities occurring within the District, and serves as a liaison between Old Town residents and the City Council. It is highly desirable that applicants reside or conduct business in the Cultural Resources District, demonstrate interest and knowledge in local history and historical preservation, and/or have expertise in the professions of Architecture, Planning, Archeology, History or other historic preservation-related disciplines. As a native of San Francisco, I watched the rejuvenation of the Victorian "Old ladies" as an outgrowth of the Hippie era. Fortunately for later generations, the then "harebrained" restoration of these homes and neighborhoods has preserved for the next generation an invaluable and otherwise irrretreivable heritagt. 3.
