RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council: 1 . Adopt Resolution No. 20-48 accepting the Columbus Tustin Park Picnic Shelter and Sports Field Improvements (CIP No. 20080), and 2. Authorize the City Clerk to file the Notice of Completion with the County Recorder's office. FISCAL IMPACT: The Columbus Tustin Park Picnic Shelter and Sports Field Improvements (CIP No. 20080) was in the 2019-2020 Capital Improvement Program as a Park Development (113 1) funded project. The final cost of the contract was $267,139. CORRELATION TO THE STRATEGIC PLAN: This project advances the following goals of the City of Tustin Strategic Plan: • Goal A. Economic and Neighborhood Development, Item 6 - by making improvements to existing parks to expand recreational activities. • Goal C. Financial Strength, Item 4a - by providing a new source of revenue. BACKGROUND: The scope of work included the purchase and installation of a 40' x 50' picnic shelter and two (2) 12' x 18' bleacher shade structures from Icon Shelter Systems Inc. (see Attachment) at Columbus Tustin Park. The project was completed on June 23, 2020. This new picnic shelter will serve as a location for family picnics and social events in an underutilized area of the park adjacent to the tennis courts between the playground and the restroom building. In addition, it will provide a new source of rental revenue from DocuSign Envelope ID: 1C9A57ED-E503-4BE9-A039-5CA5DED3CAE3 Page 2 reservations. Currently Columbus Tustin is one the few Tustin parks that does not have a reservable picnic shelter. The bleacher shade structures will provide shade for both sets of spectator bleachers at Columbus Tustin Park Ballfield #2, which is the home of Tustin Girls Softball. While the other ballfields at Columbus Tustin Park have trees nearby that provide some shade for spectators, the two sets of bleachers at Ballfield #2 were totally exposed to the sun. This project was identified by the Community Services Commission as the next to be completed on their seven-year Capital Improvement Project Priority List. Respectfully submitted, (W U1.
