SUBJECT: AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR MAIN STREET WELL
NO.4 REHABILITATION PROJECT (CIP NO. 6157)
SUMMARY
Bids solicited for the Main Street Well No.4 Rehabilitation Project (CIP No. 6157) have been
received, a qualified contractor has been selected and a construction contract is ready to be
awarded.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council award the construction contract for the Main Street
Well No.4 Rehabilitation Project (CIP No. 6157), to General Pump Company, Inc., the lowest
responsible bidder in the amount of $96,700.00 and authorize the Mayor and the City Clerk
to execute the contract documents on behalf of the City.
FISCAL IMPACT
The FY 2005/2006 Water Capital Improvement Program (WCIP) Budget provides $140,000
in funding for construction of the Main Street Well No.4 Rehabilitation Project (CIP No.
6157).
BACKGROUND
On November 21, 2005, the City Council authorized staff to advertise the Main Street Well
No.4 Rehabilitation Project (CIP 6157) for bids by qualified contractors. This project
.provides for rehabilitating the well casing, gravel pack, and formation to improve well
production and efficiency. Bids were opened on January 10, 2006. Two bids were received:
General Pump Company, Inc. at $96,700.00, and Layne Christensen Company at
$114,252.00. The apparent low bid, General Pump Company, is about 8% below the
engineer's estimate of $105,000. General Pump Company's contractor references, State
Contractor's license and insurance bonds have all been checked, verified and deemed
appropriate for the subject project.
