BACKGROUND
The Public Works DepartmentNVater Services Division is scheduled to replace two
International dump trucks (1987 & 1989) in the 05/06 Fiscal Year. The old trucks, units
7020 and 7021, are single axle trucks and will be replaced with dual axle dump trucks with a
larger carrying capacity. The additional capacity of the new dump trucks will greatly reduce
the frequency of trips to the City yard and will enhance the efficiency of the operations of the
Water Division. The new trucks will be equipped with diesel powered engines and not
alternative fuel engines. The purchase of the new dump trucks will be exempt from the
South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), Rule 1196, based on the total
number of City owned heavy duty vehicles which is less than 15. The old trucks will be
declared surplus and sold at public auction. The total estimated cost of the two new dump
trucks is $248,000.
