eComment: Why are the lights off at the skatepark? We have been to the skatepark on multiple
occasions. Each time there are far more skateboarders using the park than people using the rest
of the park, it clearly is the most popular piece of Tustin legacy property. A beginner to advanced
level skatepark that not only may produce future Olympians, but has been frequented by
members of the US Olympic team, The Brazilian Olympic team, the Japanese Olympic team, the
British Olympic team, and even the French Olympic team. These are the athletes that we have
personally seen training at the Tustin skateboarding facility, but other countries athletes have
most likely used the facility as well. I was told that people on the field were social distancing but I
have seen them congregating together and sharing balls so that argument holds no merit, I was
also told that there were some issues with the veterans memorial. When I went to see the
veterans memorial I noticed the design is perfect for skateboarding. With all the new construction
we have now being made to be unskateable, I really question the architect of the veterans
memorial. However, actually making the veterans memorial unskateable would be simple, easy,
and inexpensive. A few small modifications would remedy this problem very easily.
Skateboarders have already flooded social media with requests that their peers not skate the
veterans memorial. Obviously this is a small minority of those who use the skateboarding facility,
why punish the majority for the mistakes of a few? We look forward to the lights coming back on
soon so we can resume our evening training sessions.
