SUBJECT: MAYOR AND MAYOR PRO TEM SELECTION
SUMMARY:
The City Council selects those members of the Council who will serve as Mayor and
Mayor Pro Tem for the following year.
RECOMMENDATION:
Pleasure of the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
BACKGROUND:
Each December, the City Council votes for those members of the Council who will serve
as Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem for the following year. The following sequence of events
occur:
o The current Mayor, or Mayor Pro Tem in his of her absence, solicits nominations
for a member to serve as Mayor. In the absence of the Mayor Pro Tem, the City
Clerk or City Attorney will solicit nominations. Members of the Council vote and
select the Mayor for the following year.
o Following the selection of the Mayor, the newly selected Mayor solicits nominations
for a member to serve as Mayor Pro Tem. Members of the Council vote and select
the Mayor Pro Tem for the following year.
