DISCUSSION: On an annual basis, staff will identify training and workshop topics that align with the role and purpose of the Planning Commission. The Community Development Department has identified the following topics for future informational trainings/workshops: Trainings ■ Planning Commission Role and Purpose ■ Planning Commission Meeting Rules and Procedures (i.e. Parliamentary Procedures, Brown Act) ■ California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) ■ Entitlements, Conditions of Approval and Findings ■ Zoning, Specific Plans and General Plan Overview ■ Design Review Overview ■ Historic Preservation Program Overview (Historic Resources District, Certificate of Appropriateness, and Mills Act Program) ■ Tour of Tustin (i.e. Old Town, Tustin Legacy, etc.) ■ State Housing Laws ■ Community Participation & Public Input Workshops ■ Housing Element Update ■ Accessory Dwelling Unit State Law ■ Density Bonus Law ■ Historic Survey Update and Historic Context Statement ■ City Demographics Overview DocuSign Envelope ID:2577394A-D610-4606-982D-D6C996E6758D PC 2021 Workshops &Training March 9, 2021 Page 2 ■ Overview of the City's Major Specific Plans ■ Workforce Housing Ordinance ■ Tustin Sign Code Overview In addition, we would like to share with you that staff is currently working on the following Ordinance updates and projects, which will be brought to the Commission for consideration at a future meeting date. ■ Accessory Dwelling Unit Ordinance Update ■ Density Bonus Ordinance Update ■ Large Family Day Care Code Amendment ■ Accessory Dwelling Unit Design Guidelines ■ Landscape and Irrigation Guidelines Revisions ■ Comprehensive Zoning Code Cleanup The trainings and workshops will be scheduled for various meetings beginning in late March, once all Commission seats are filled. Staff requests that the Planning Commission review the topics listed above, provide input and share other topic ideas for training and workshops.
