Good evening Mayor Clark and council members,
This evening I would like to share my concerns on Housing Element. Today there are
84 thousand people in cumulative housing waitlist in Orange County. There are only a
few hundred affordable housing units available, and/or vouchers given. 7,000
individuals/families on the streets or in shelters on any given night. It is our
responsibility as custodians of this city to do better in providing affordable housing.
As a formerly unhoused woman, I have witnessed people dying in shelters while
awaiting housing. The death tolls monthly have increased significantly. As a disabled
woman, I can testify that housing has saved my life.
I respectfully oppose SB 719: Surplus: Exempt Surplus land: Eligible Military Base
Land written by Senator Dave Min. Senator Mins own words His goal is to help defend
and restore the American Dream while extending this to the marginalized
communities that have too often been denied opportunities in our country. Senator
Mins wife, Jane runs a Domestic Violence Clinic. It is worth mentioning that 40% of
women/mothers entering a shelter have or are currently experiencing domestic
violence.
Children deserve housing stability and Mayor Clark and council members, you are
presented with the opportunity to solve the housing crisis by investing in theses
childrens future, by creating housing opportunities for families. Its the ethical and
responsible response to the Housing Element crisis.
