SUMMARY
This report recommends that the City Council accept and appropriate $255,017 of American
Rescue Plan Act funds from the County of Orange for meal gap support initiatives in response to
COVID-19.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council accept and appropriate $255,017 of American Rescue Plan
Act funds from the County of Orange for meal gap support initiatives in response to COVID-19.
CORRELATION TO THE STRATEGIC PLAN
The recommendation correlates to the City's strategic plan by implementing Goal C, Strategy#4,
explore opportunities for new or increased revenues.
DISCUSSION
On June 21, 2021, the City received $255,017 of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds from
the County of Orange for meal gap support initiatives in response to COVID-19. This funding will
be used to provide food related assistance to residents, including senior citizens, families, and
other vulnerable populations experiencing food insecurity. Staff is finalizing details for the
distribution of these funds in collaboration with local non-profits and businesses as well as the
Tustin Unified School District. Options include vouchers for local grocery stores and markets,
weekend food supply bags, and gift cards to local restaurants.
Per the contract with the County of Orange, these ARPA funds are required to be expended by
November 30, 2021.
