A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THE ESTABLISHMENT
OF A SERVICE AUTHORITY FOR FREEWAY EMERGENCIES
The City Council of the City of Tustin hereby resolves as follows'
WHEREAS, Chapter 14 of Division 3 of the Streets and Highways Code
was added by Chapter 1350 of the Statutes of 1985 providing for the establish-
ment of a Service Authority for Freeway Emergencies (SAFE) ii= the Board of
Supervisors of the county and a majority of the cities within the county
having a majority of the population adopt resolutions providing for the estab-
lishment of the authority; and
WHEREAS, the Tustin City Council finds that a freeway emergency
motorist aid system is needed to protect the safety of motorists on freeways;
and
WHEREAS, the Tustin City Council finds that a freeway emergency
motorist aid system is needed to reduce the time spent by law enforcement
12 officers responding to routine vehicle disablements; and
WHEREAS, SAFE will have responsibility for implementing a freeway
emergency motorist aid system in the Orange County region;
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS RESOLVED AND ORDERED that the City Council of
the City of Tustin hereby requests that a Service Authority for Freeway
Emergencies be established in Orange County pursuant to Section 2550 of the
Streets and Highway Code.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Tustin City'Council directs that the
members of the Orange County Transportation Commission shall serve as the
18 Service Authority for Freeway Emergencies in the County of Orange.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Tustin, State
of California, on this 3rd day of February, 1986.
