HUSTON, CITY MANAGER FROM: PARKS AND RECREATION SERVICES SUBJECT: APPOINTMENT TO FILL VACANCY IN BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE TUSTIN AREA SENIOR CENTER FUND, INC. SUMMARY: City Council action is required to appoint Mary Hill to the Tustin Area Senior Center Fund, Inc. Pursuant to its Articles of Incorporation and its by-laws, the Tustin Area Senior Center Fund, Inc., consists of five (5) Directors. Due to the relocation of Janet Swartz out of state, a vacancy currently exists in the Board of Directors. As per the by- laws, any vacancy may be filled by appointment of the City Council. RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council appoint Mary Hill, Business Owner and Community Volunteer, to the Board of Directors of the Tustin Area Senior Center Fund, Inc. BACKGROUND: The Tustin Area Senior Center Fund, Inc. was established in 1985 to raise money for the construction of the Tustin Area Senior Center. When the Center opened in 1989, the Articles of Incorporation were amended to include acceptance of gifts and donations to aid in capital acquisitions and operation of the Center. Some of the projects financed by the Fund include the reception desk located in the lobby, computer software to produce the monthly newsletter, viewing windows in the lounge, classroom window coverings and the redesign of Classroom 3 into a state-of-the-art Computer Learning Center. According to the bylaws, the Board of Directors consists of one member from the City Council, one member from the Senior Advisory Board, the City Manager and two Members-at-Large. The last annual meeting of the Tustin Area Senior Center Fund, Inc. Board of Directors was held April 3, 2006. The current members include Tony Kawashima, Councilmember, William A. Huston, City Manager; and Marisa Charette, Board Member. Due to the relocation of Board Member, Janet Swartz, there is now a vacancy for a Member-at-Large. A recommendation for Mary Hill was discussed and all current Board Directors were in favor of her appointment as a Member-at-Large. Parks and Recreation Director, Patrick Sanchez, and Parks and Recreation Supervisor, Marilyn Esposito, will be in attendance at the May 18t Council Meeting to answer any questions.
