MEETING DATE: JULY 3,2006
TO: WILLIAM A. HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
FROM: PATRICK SANCHEZ, DIRECTOR, PARKS & RECREATION SERVICES
SUBJECT: CITY WIDE BLOOD DRIVE
SUMMARY
A City wide blood drive has been scheduled through the efforts of the City of Tustin's
Parks and Recreation Department, Police Department and Human Resources
Department. This blood drive is designed to help during the summer season since
there is currently a serious shortage of blood. All of the blood collected through our
drive will stay in our community to benefit local hospitals.
RECOMMENDATION
Pleasure ofthe Council.
BACKGROUND
Thanks to support from Adriana Tokar, Tustin Police Department and Kristi Recchia,
Director of the Human Resources Department, we have coordinated a community wide
blood drive through a cooperative arrangement with So Cal Blood Services. It will be
held at the Clifton C. Miller Community Room on Friday, July 7, from 11 :00 a.m. to 5:00
p.m.
We are asking citizens of Tustin to help by calling Blood Drive contact, Kathryn Halili, at
(714) 573-3346 to reserve an appointment. All donors will receive a certificate for a pint
of Baskin-Robbins ice cream as a gesture of appreciation. It is noteworthy to point out
that less than 5% of the American population donates blood, but 90% of our population
will need a blood product by the age of 70. We can never be sure what our future
holds, but donating blood to our local hospitals is one sure way to help.
Respectfully submitted,
Patrick Sanchez
Director, Parks and Recreation Services
