CLANTON, DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION SERVICES SUBJECT: TUSTIN SPORTS PARK DUGOUT WALL MURAL PUBLIC ART PROJECT SUMMARY: At their November 16, 2022, Regular Meeting, the Community Services Commission recommended forwarding the design for the Tustin Sports Park Dugout Wall Mural selected by the Public Art Committee to the City Council for final approval. RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council adopt Resolution 22-65 approving the wall mural design, submitted by artist James Dinh, to be installed on the dugout wall at Tustin Sports Park Field #2 and authorize the Parks and Recreation Department to execute an agreement with the artist. FISCAL IMPACT: The artist will be paid $6,800 upon completion of the wall mural, which exhausts the balance remaining in the Public Art Fund for the 2022-2023 Fiscal Year. CORRELATION TO THE STRATEGIC PLAN: This public art project is in accordance with Goal A of the Tustin Strategic Plan to enhance the vibrancy and quality of life in all neighborhoods and areas of the community. BACKGROUND: At their June 15, 2022, meeting, the Public Art Committee selected the Tustin Sports Park Dugout Wall Mural as their next project for the 2022-2023 Fiscal Year. The specific location of the project is the back side of the first base dugout on Field #2, which is visible from the playground area. In August 2022, a ‘Call for Artists’ soliciting proposals for the project was released. Seven artists responded, submitting eight mural concepts for the Public Art Committee to review. At their September 21, 2022, meeting, the Committee selected a mural concept by James Dinh with a colorful linear design featuring the various sports hosted at Tustin Sports Park. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Tustin hereby approves the artwork recommended by the Parks and Recreation Department and authorizes the Director of Parks and Recreation to execute an agreement with the artist as recommended by the Public Art Committee in a total amount not to exceed $6,800; and PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Tustin held on the 20th day of December 2022.
