(REVISED AGENDA)

eComment: Honorable members of the Tustin City Council, My name is Beatriz Velasquez. I am
writing to address the recent Tustin hangar fire and its concerning impact on the residents of
Columbus Square. The fire at the hangar has raised serious health concerns for the residents,
particularly regarding their exposure to asbestos and other toxins in the air. Asbestos, a known
carcinogen, poses a significant risk to public health when released into the air, and the residents
of Columbus Square, in close proximity to the hangar, are understandably alarmed by the health
implications of this incident. We have been left with having to test our own homes, with some
receiving positive results for asbestos in their home. Not all my neighbors have the financial
means to do this. In light of this alarming situation, it is imperative that the city takes immediate
and decisive action to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected residents. Testing should
be conducted in Columbus Square homes to assess the extent of contamination and potential
health risks posed by the release of asbestos and other toxins. Furthermore, the city must
provide timely communication to the residents of Columbus Square who don't have internet
access or may be challenged in finding updates and information, keeping them informed about
the ongoing efforts to mitigate the impact of the hangar fire and to inform them of health risks,
even if that means going door to door to drop off an info pamphlet. No-one should be left in the
dark. The well-being and health of the affected residents must be the top priority, and the city's
proactive response to this critical issue will be essential in restoring trust and confidence within
the community. As a resident of Tustin for 19 years, 16 of those years in Columbus Square, I
implore to make the health and safety of our community your top priority.
