Item: 11. CONSIDERATION TO RENAME THE CITY OF TUSTIN CORPORATE YARD TO THE
LOU BONE TUSTIN CORPORATE YARD Consideration of a request from Mayor Austin
Lumbard to recognize former Mayor Lucien "Lou" Bone by renaming the City of Tustin Corporate
Yard, located at 1472 Service Road, to The Lou Bone Tustin Corporate Yard and
commemorating the honor with the placement of a plaque near the main entrance of the
building.
eComment: I am writing to express my wholehearted support for renaming the Corporate Yard
for former Mayor Lou Bone. Mayor Bone was an exceptional public servant. He not only served
here at home in Tustin for his fellow citizens but also took many regional roles in Southern
California... particularly in areas of public works that led to a better quality of life for millions of
Orange County residents. Moreover, he constantly encouraged and helped his fellow Council
Members to serve others by stepping up and following his example in regional public service and
leadership. Indeed, many Mayors and Council Members who followed his example went on to
lead the regional agencies they served as Chairman of the agency Board of Directors. In Tustin,
Lou co-founded Tustin Pride, worked tirelessly on many community events and for many
organizations, including the annual Chili Cook Off, The Community Foundation, The Chamber of
Commerce, Tustin Man and Woman of the Year and many others. Lou was also a mentor to
many who took up public service in our hometown whether they served on City Council, a City
Commission or Committee, or a non-profit organization. His dedication to public works, roads,
transportation systems, water systems, and the like, make dedicating the City's Public Works
Facility to bear his name truly a fitting recognition of an outstanding Public Servant and a great
Mayor. I strongly encourage Council Members to cast a yes vote for this well deserved honor for
our 29th Mayor, Lou Bone. Sincerely, Jerry Amante Mayor of Tustin # 31 (Ret.)
