eComment: Good evening Council, I just want to say again that I'm very excited about this
project, and everyone I talk to about it feels the same way. This isn't just a maintenance project -
this is really going to elevate the aesthetic quality and the walkability of Old Town and really help
connect people to Tustin Plaza and the Tustin civic complex. And we all know how much the
people of Tustin enjoy the street fairs that happen in Old Town, so the retractable bollards seem
like a very practical addition. The net increase in street trees is obviously welcome, as we should
do everything we can to live up to our nickname "the city of trees". I don't think the plans on the
"Improvements Coming to Old Town" page on the city's websites are the most up-to-date, but I
hope that the planning team has seriously considered widening the curb at the intersections of
Main-&-C-Street and Main-&-Prospect-Ave, where they are installing bollards. Both those
crossings would benefit from a shorter cross and greater visibility between folks driving and
crossing. Pedestrians crossing have the right-of-way there because the crosswalk is marked, but
it doesn't feel that way in person and can even feel dangerous and confusing. If we're going to
be tearing up some road and sidewalk to install bollards and a parklet, maybe we can use this
opportunity to solve two issues at once and even reduce the number of bollards required by
shortening the gap. Again, I'm really looking forward to seeing this project come to fruition.
Thank you, Gabriel Groen
