Heritage Place at Tustin I Tustin, California 154-unit community for residents
2026
We respectfully ask the City of Tustin and the appropriate housing official to
protect seniors from unaffordable rent increases. We ask that no rent incr
approved for our community this year. If an increase cannot be avoided, we ask that it
be limited to no more than 3%.
To the City of Tustin and Appropriate Housing Officials:
We, the undersigned residents and supporters of Heritage Place at Tustin, respectfully request immediate attention
to the financial hardship facing seniors in our community. Heritage Place is intended to provide affordable housing
for residents age 62 and older, yet substantial rent increases can place that housing beyond our reach.
Many residents live on fixed and limited incomes. Social Security increases do not keep pace with the rising cost of
rent, food, medicine, utilities, and other basic needs. Some seniors receive very little food assistance - sometimes
as little as $25 per month. An increase of up to 8% would force residents to make painful choices between rent,
groceries, health care, and other necessities.
Residents are also being required to complete full income recertifications after years without this process. We
understand that housing programs may require documentation, but the process can be difficult and stressful for
older adults. We ask that residents receive clear explanations, reasonable assistance, adequate time, and
respectful treatment throughout every recertification.
We respectfully request:
1. That no rent increase be approved or implemented at Heritage Place at Tustin this year.
2. If an increase cannot be avoided, that it be limited to a maximum of 3%.
3. That the City review how proposed rent increases affect low-income seniors and advocate for
meaningful senior rent protections.
4. That residents receive clear written information and assistance with all recertification
requirements.
Seniors have worked, served their families, and contributed to their communities for decades. We are asking for
fairness, stability, and the ability to remain safely housed without sacrificing food or health care. Please hear our
voices and give this senior cQmmunity a much -needed break.
By signing below, I support the requests stated in this petition.
