CORRELATION TO THE STRATEGIC PLAN:
This project advances Goal B, Public Safety and Protection of Assets, Strategy 5a
by ensuring continuous maintenance and improvement of park facilities.
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION:
The playground at the Tustin Family and Youth Center (14722 Newport Avenue)
was installed over 16 years ago and is due for replacement. To update this space and
better serve the Center’s youth patrons, the Community Services Commission has
identified this renovation as next in line on their seven-year CIP priority list.
The new playground area will feature a reimagined design that provides multiple
active outdoor opportunities. Improvements include a multi-sport (i.e. soccer and
basketball) court with rubber athletic surfacing and safety netting, a climbing structure with
associated shade, and tot playground equipment and surfacing.
Pursuant to Tustin City Code Section 1625(c), the City is authorized to utilize
regional, state, or federal cooperative purchasing programs. The California
Multiple Award Schedules (CMAS) cooperative purchasing program offers an
expedited process to procure products and services that have been subjected
to a competitive public bid/proposal process. Approval of this item will authorize
the City to award a contract through the CMAS program to The KYA Group, to
provide the best overall value for the City.
