HomeMy WebLinkAbout06 Area Tours ITEM #6 DATE: JUNE 12,2007 'IiL~V--~~\ (' ~ \ I nte r-Co m\~.s_rp~ TO: FROM: SUBJECT: PLANNING COMMISSION COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT AREA TOURS BACKGROUND At its May 22, 2007, meeting, the Planning Commission requested that staff organize and schedule tours of Old Town and other areas of the City. It was suggested that the tours be held in the early evening prior to any Planning Commission meeting that has a light agenda, and that the tours conclude at a gathering place such as the Tustin Chamber of Commerce or a community center. The public would be invited to attend all tours and subsequent gatherings. The purpose of the tours is to provide the Planning Commission with an overview of various areas of the City from a community development perspective. This perspective would focus on architecture, site and subdivision design, planning and zoning issues, neighborhood preservation, signage, and related topics. Issues that may be specific to an individual parcel, including specific code enforcement violations, would be avoided as these matters could be brought forward at a future date to the Commission in your role as the Board of Appeals. Attached to this report are a map of Tustin and a list of areas that could be toured in a period of under two (2) hours. Based on input received from the Planning Commission and the level of planning and building activity in these areas, staff has prioritized the areas for the Planning Commission's consideration. It would be appropriate at the June 12, 2007, Planning Commission meeting for the Commission to ask questions about the proposed tours and provide general input to staff. It is anticipated that the first tour could be scheduled for June 26, 2007. .,J~~ Scott Reekstin Senior Planner a~/L.~ Elizabeth A.
