HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 82-53 RESOLUTION NO. 82-53 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY C0UNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA, URGING THAT ALL BALLOTS AND BALLOT MATERIALS BE PRINTED IN ENGLISH ONLY AND THAT SAMPLE BALLOTS BE PRINTED IN AT LEAST TEN-POINT TYPE WHEREAS, the City of Tustin encourages their citizens to become more involved in government; and WHEREAS, in order for the citizens to be aware of the choices in issues and candidates contained in the official material sent to the citi- zens by their Registrar of Voters, it is necessary that said material be printed in a minimum of ten-point type; and WHEREAS, in order to become a citizen of the United States, a candidate must be able to speak and read English; and WHEREAS, i~ order to be a registered voter, a candidate must be a citizen of the United States; and WHEREAS, the government does not print the ballot in Polish, Italian, French, Chinese, Swahili, Vietnamese, Korean, or any other foreign language except Spanish; and WHEREAS, Senator S. I. Hayakawa has sponsored a constitutional amendment to make English the official language; and WHEREAS, sample ballots should be printed on white paper with black ink. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that ~e Tustin City Council here- by requests all Orange County cities, the County government, our State rep- resentatives from our district, and the Federal representatives fr. om our district to pass a law to put this Resolution in action.
