RESOLUTION NO · 82-21
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING RATIFICATION OF
THE PERIPHERAL CANAL REFERENDUM
WHEREAS, a referendum on the issue of the Peripheral Canal has been
set for June 8, 1982; and
WHEREAS, the Peripheral Canal would assure a stabilized quantity of
water not now enjoyed by State Water Project Contractors and permit Southern
California water utilities to commit funds to waste water reclamation, thereby
reducing both long-term demands for water and providing insurance against the
effects of drought; and
WHEREAS, the increasing possibility of serious water shortages
within the next decade is a source of continuing concern to all residents and
businesses in the City of Tustin and Southern California; and
WHEREAS, the City of Tustin and attendant municipal entities are
concerned over the failure to start the long-delayed project; and
WHEREAS, the Supreme Court has ruled that by 1985, Southern Cali-
fornia's supply of water from the Colorado River will be cut in half; and
WHEREAS, the timely development of the Peripheral Canal Project is
necessary to ensure the future orderly growth and development of the economic
base of business and industry in the City of Tustin and Southern California,
and once agreement is reached, it will take many years to complete the work
necessary to open such a canal,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Tustin does support the Peripheral Canal Project and does urge all voters to
also support this project by approving the Peripheral Canal Referendum.
