HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 81-36l0 18 £0 RESOLUTION NO. 81- 36 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN AUTHORIZING CITY SUPPORT OF SENATE BILL 65 WHICH WOULD EXEMPT EMERGENCY VEHICLES FROM CURRENT STATE EMISSION STANDARDS. ~YiEREAS, existing State law prohibits any' motor vehicle ~rom operating on a highway in the State v~]ich is not. equippe~ with pollution' control devices specified by law; and WHERES", emergency vehicles a~Dunt to 25,000 of the 18.8 million vehicles currently registered in California (.0013 or 13/100 of one percent); and WHEREAS, acceleration ar~ top speed capabili'ties are irr~°rtant to law enforcement units and other emergency vehicles, and. State e~[ssion requirements tend .to reduce, this capability; and ~HEREAS, current emission standards cause increaed fuel consumption, increased maintenance, and reduced flexibility in purchasing equipment to raeet community needs. NC~, THEREFORE, BE IT 'RESOLVED BY RIRE CI%Y COUNCIL- 1. That the City of Tustin supports the adoption o~ Senate Bill 65 Which would a~d a section to the California Vehicle Code to exentot aut~horize~ emergency vehicles from requirements of California law for motor vehicle pollution control devices 2. That the .City Clerk is hereby directed to forwar~ copies of this Resolution to our Orange County State legislators ar~ encourage them to actively support the passage of SB 65.
