HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 79-0864 8 9 10 RESOLUTION NO. 79-86 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN ENCOURAGING AND SUPPORTING THE COMPLETION OF THE CALIFORNIA STATE WATER PROJECT. WHEREAS, adequate water supplies to Southern California will be of increasing concern in the future; and. WHEREAS, the United States Supreme Court in 1964 decreed that Colorado River water supply to Southern California will be cut by 55% around 1985; and · WHEREAS, the California State Finance Committee recently failed to approve SB 200, supporting construction of the Peripheral Canal in the approved State Water Project; and ' WHEREAS, the proposed Peripheral Canal is deemed com- patible with the environmental and recreation needs of the. Sacramento- San Joaquin Delta while improving the quality and quantity of water to the entire state; and 18 19 20 21 26 29 WHEREAS, appropriate planning, EIR work, design and con- struction phases necessary to develop new facilities and water-supply solutions are very time consuming and subject to many delays, NOW, 'THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Tustin, California, hereby endorses, encourages, and supports legislation by the State of California to fully complete the State Water Project., particularly the Peripheral Canal, as a positive measure towards solving future water problems in California. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk shall be directed to forward copies of this action to our State Representatives and the Orange County Division, League of California Cities requesting th e i r support. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all Orange County cities are urged to adopt and submit similar resolutions to their state represen- tatives. ..
