HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 79-288 8 lO 18 16 21 8O 81 88 RESOLUTION NO. 79-28 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA SUPPORTlNG HR2505, A BILL TO ESTABLISH A NEW FEDERAL JUDICIAL DISTRICT IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA WHEREAS, HR 2505 is a bill to establish a new Federal judicial district in the State of California; and WHEREAS, the new district, which would be referred to as "Southwestern' would be comprised of the counties of Orange,. Riverside and San Bernardino, all of which are currently in the seven-county Central District of California; and · WHEREAS, the Central District has more than ll million people' residing in it and court is only held in Los Angeles, imposing a severe hardship on the residents of Tustin; and WHEREAS, a "Southwestern" District of the three counties would have 3.5 million people residing in it, a district larger than two-thirds of the present federal districts in the United States; and WHEREAS, the creation of a 'iSouthwestern:: District would greatly ease the delays and serious inconveniences for the residents of the three counties at a minimal cost to the taxpayer NOW THEREFORE, the £ity Council of the City of Tustin does hereby resolve as foilows' 1. The City Council supports HR 2505 a bill to establish a new Federal judicial district in the State of California which would be referred to as "Southwestern" to be comprised of the counties of Orange, Riverside and San Bernard ino. 2. The City Council urges each of our State Legislators to support an promulgate legislation supporting such proposals or actions, 3. The City Council urges all other cities in Orange County and other interested persons to urge similar support of their legislative representa- tives. 4. The City Clerk is directed to distribute copies of this resolution to Congressman Patterson, Congressman Dannemeyer, Congressman Badham, Assemblyman Bruce Nestande, Assemblyman Ri chard Robinson, Assemblywoman Marian Bergeson, Senator John V. Briggs, Senator John Schmitz and all cities in Orange County.
