HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 1032 (1989) ORDINANCE'NO. 1032 1 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA REPEALING 2 ORDINANCE NO. 980 WHICH REQUIRED THE CITY' S GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE 5 CONSOLIDATED WITH THE STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION HELD IN NOVEMBER OF EVEN 4 NUMBERED YEARS, PURSUANT TO SECTION 36503.5 OF THE GOVERNMENT CODE 5 6 The City Council of the City of Tustin does hereby 7 ordain as follows: 8 Section 1: Ordinance No. 980 is hereby repealed. 9 Section 2: The City Clerk is directed to conduct the general municipal election on the 2nd Tuesday in April of an 10 even numbered year, to canvass the return of the general municipal election, and to otherwise conduct the election in 11 all respects pursuant to the provisions of Elections Code Section 22800, and following, pertaining to municipal 12 elections. 15 Section. 3: Those city officers whose terms .of office would have, prior to the adoption of this Ordinance, expired 14 on the 4th Tuesday after the day of the general municipal election in November of an even numbered year, shall instead 15 have .their terms of office expire on the Tuesday succeeding the second. Tuesday in April of an even numbered year. 16 Section 4: No term of office shall be' decreased by 17 more than twelve (12) months as a result of the adoption of this Ordinance. 18 Section. 5: The period to nominate candidates for the 19 general municipal election shall be as set forth' in Elections Code Section 22836. 20 Section 6: Within thirty (30) days after this 21 Ordinance becomes effective the City Clerk shall cause a notice to be mailed to all registered voters informing the 22 voters of the change in the election date, and that elected city officeholders' terms in office will be changed. Section 7: The general municipal election following 24 adoption of this Ordinance and each municipal election thereafter shall be held on the date for general municipal 25 elections held in April of even numbered years. 27 /// 28 III 1 PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Tustin, California, held on the 2 20th day of November , 1989.
