SUBJECT: CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS FOR A PROPOSED RE -ROOF AT
555 MAIN STREET
Dear Sirs:
In accordance with Ordinance No. 1001 which was adopted June 20,
1988 by the Tustin City Council, the Community Development Director
has. the authority to approve, approve with conditions or deny
Certification of Appropriateness for improvements requiring a City
building permit for property located within a Cultural Resource
District.
The following findings are required before a Certificate of
Appropriateness is issued:
a. The proposed work conforms to the Municipal Code and design
standards which may be established from time to time by the
Cultural Resources Committee.
b. The proposed work does not adversely affect the character of
the District or Designated Cultural Resources within the
District.
C. The proposed work is harmonious with existing surroundings.
The extent of harmony shall be evaluated in terms of
appropriateness of materials, scale, size, height, placement
and use of a new building or structure in relationship to
existing buildings and structures and the surrounding setting.
The Community Development Director has reviewed the proposed re -
roof for the above mentioned public structure and has determined
that the proposed improvement is in conformance with the above
requirements in that the proposed roof material is consistent with
existing conditions and similar structures in the immediate
neighborhood.

Here is a C.O.A. for the First Advent
Christian Church of Tustin. They are
re -roofing, and came in for a building
permit. The material that is being
replaced is organic, three tabbed,
roofing material. The replacement
is fiberglass, laminated shingle, with the
same dimensions. This has raised tabs,
and is slightly darker than the old
material, although this is due to
weathering, according to the roofing
contractor. Here are three photos, and
I do have a sample in my office of both
the old and new materials if you would
like to see them. Thanks,
